IPIFF and Argenta Join Forces to Accelerate Innovation in Insect-Based Animal Health and Nutrition Products and Human Nutrition products
Brussels / Munich, 23 March 2026 – The International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed (IPIFF) and Argenta, the world’s only global animal health and nutrition Contract Research and Development Organization (CRO/CDMO), with regulatory expertise in human nutrition today announced a strategic advisory partnership aimed at accelerating the development and regulatory approval of insect-based solutions for animal health and nutrition.
This collaboration unites IPIFF’s deep sector knowledge of insect production with Argenta’s extensive scientific and regulatory expertise. By working together, the organizations aim to bridge the gap between sustainable insect farming and the rigorous demands of the veterinary medicine, animal nutrition, and food markets.
As part of this agreement, Argenta will serve as a "Strategic Advisory Member on Animal Health & Nutrition, and Human Nutrition Product Development" for IPIFF. Argenta’s team of scientists and regulatory experts will provide non-voting strategic guidance to IPIFF and its members, focusing on navigating complex approval pathways with authorities such as the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
Key areas of collaboration include:
- Regulatory Pathway Expertise: Advising on the design of preclinical and clinical studies to generate the robust data required for market authorization of insect-based functional feeds, nutraceuticals, veterinary medicinal products or foods.
- Scientific Advisory: Participating in IPIFF working groups to provide technical feedback on product development and review position papers related to the efficacy and safety of insect-derived ingredients.
- Knowledge Exchange: Facilitating connections between insect producers and animal health experts through joint workshops, webinars, and scientific forums to foster innovation.
Advancing Animal and Human Nutrition
This partnership translates into tangible progress for the animal and human nutrition sector by streamlining the journey of insect-based products from concept to commercial reality. With Argenta’s guidance, IPIFF members will be better equipped to meet the scientific and legal requirements to prove the efficacy of their products. This means that animal health and nutrition, and human nutrition stakeholders—from veterinarians to livestock producers, pet food manufacturers and food producers—can expect a future pipeline of scientifically validated, sustainable, and safe nutritional solutions. The collaboration will focus on establishing best practices for quality parameters, stability testing, and safety assessments, ultimately paving the way for innovative ingredients that support animal health and nutrition, and human nutrition in a more sustainable manner.
"We are thrilled to welcome Argenta as a Strategic Advisory Member," said Adriana Casillas, President of IPIFF. "Their comprehensive 'molecule to market' expertise is exactly what our sector needs to translate the inherent potential of insects into approved, high-quality products. This partnership will empower our members with the scientific roadmap required to navigate European and international regulations effectively."
Steven Barbosa, IPIFF Secretary-General, added: "This agreement marks a significant milestone for our members. By tapping into Argenta's regulatory and scientific know-how, we are providing them with a direct line to the expertise needed to overcome development hurdles. This collaboration is about turning innovative ideas into market-ready solutions that can truly advance animal health and nutrition across Europe and beyond."
Dr. Klaus Hellmann, Managing Director of KLIFOVET GmbH and Pen & Tec Consulting SLU (part of the Argenta Group), commented: "The insect sector holds immense promise for the future of animal health and nutrition, and human nutrition. We are excited to lend our regulatory and clinical development expertise to IPIFF and its members. By guiding the science behind these innovative products, we can help ensure they meet the highest standards of safety and efficacy, bringing real value to the animal health and nutrition market, and human nutrition market."
The initial agreement is effective for one year, starting from March 2026, with automatic renewal provisions.
